Manuscripts

This provisional inventory brings together all extant works attributed to Bahmanyār. It includes five treatises and 111 manuscripts. At present, it is the most comprehensive attempt of its kind, although the actual number of manuscripts, especially of Kitāb al-taḥṣīl, is undoubtedly higher.

Of these treatises, only the latter may be considered authentic beyond doubt. The authenticity of the remaining works must be assessed through further doctrinal and manuscript-based study. Treatise 2 is attributed both to Bahmanyār and to Ibn Sīnā. In the case of Treatise 3, at least 23 manuscripts attribute it to al-Fārābī, while two ascribe it to al-Maʿṣūmī and Bahmanyār. Treatises 4 and 5, which are likewise attributed to Bahmanyār, are each preserved in only one manuscript, rendering their authentication even more problematic.
